"Kitni ajeeb baat hai na Zahra, aaj jo ho raha hai wo ham kitne time se chahte the ki ho, par aaj jab ho raha hai to kuch ajeeb hi lag raha hai." He said looking at the sky, laughing at their fate and trying to break the awkward silence that once used to be a peaceful one.
Her thoughts couldn't form words, she knew he was right. Had anyone told her this a day before she wouldve laughed and shrugged off the person but today when she was feeling it, she knew it was more difficult than it seemed to.
"Kitni ajeeb baat hai na Rehan, aaj ham jis mod pe aakar khade hai zindagi ke, wo rasta hamne chuna to khud tha par aaj jab us faisle par amal karne ki baari aayi hai to haath kaap rahe hai, aisa lag raha hai jo 2 saal pehle kamaya tha wo aaj ek hi pal main chinn raha hai."
she said as tears welled up in her eyes reminiscing all the good moments this man and his family gave her.
For a brief period their eyes interlocked. They could easily read each others eyes. The pain, the vulnerability was so raw, so fresh and so evident.
"Yeh karna zaroori hai kya?!" both of them spoke simultaneously
Shayad hamey ek doosre ko time dena chahiye tha, rather than choosing this path. Rehan said knowing what they had put themselves into.
"Kya ham abhi bhi kuch nahi kar sakte?" Zahra said not wanting to walk on the path which would end in her losing him.
"Wakt Zahra Wakt. Shayad ham ek doosre ko pyaar aur respect dena to seekh gaye par wakt dena, yeh seekhna bhool gaye." He looked at her, with fresh set of tears forming in his eyes, looking at her who herself was in a pool of tears.
"Ms. Zahra and Mr. Rehan Iqbal" Their trance broke, they looked at the speakers not wanting them to say anything, as they knew what was coming their way.
"The court has given its final orders and we inform you that, you are now divorced." Their lawyers inform them. They looked at each other not wanting to go apart. He held her hand and brought her a little far from the bench they had been sitting on such that no one could hear them.
"Zahra I know jo yeh ho raha hai, yeh hamare Ego clashes ka nateeja hai, par kya hamara Ego hamre pyaar se zyaada keemti hai?" He said.
"Par Rehan kya ab sab theek karna mumkin hai?" She said, desperately wanting to hear a yes from him as she unknowingly held his hands in hers with her eyes still moist. He knew nothing at that point, all that he knew was they deserved a lot better.
He couldnt control his urge and engulfed her into a bone crushing hug and she reciprocated it with the same energy.
"Koshish to kar hi sakte hai na Zahra kisi ke liye nahi balki apne liye, besides mujhey is shuruwaat ke liye jo chahiye tha wo mujhey mil gaya" he said kissing her forehead.
"Aur wo kya hai?" she asked looking at him while being in the hug.
"A ray of hope, Ek tukda dhoop ka."
